Sumo Sushi

For this logo, I played around with concentric circles, trying to evoke the idea of a sumo wrestler with as little form as possible. The red circle is the symbol of the Japanese flag. The circle is also the shape of the wrestling ring, the sushi roll, or the ramekin that holds your soy sauce. The figure is recursive, a tessellating fractal-like pattern where the body looks like a larger version of the head. What is eyes and a mouth on the face becomes arms and a belly button on the body. The overall result is a lighthearted tribute to Japanese culture and cuisine.
