District 1 City of Birmingham
I have a soft spot for anyone who endeavors to use design to empower and improve their community. So when Birmingham city councilor Clinton Woods approached me to establish a logo that would rally citizens across the various neighborhoods in his district, I was happy to help make that dream a reality. This logo invokes subtle patriotism, but is also grounded in communal sentiments of togetherness with each line representing a neighborhood in the district. The logo mark acts as a banner, and can be easily drawn by youngsters in the district as well. I was pleased to largely avoid serifs, an easy misstep many other cities make in an attempt to exude class and sophistication. The typeface is authoritative, but meant to feel empowering for citizens, a proud declaration to neighboring districts.
